Founded in 1922, the Anna Herrmann-School is one of Germany's oldest schools for the training of certified gymnastics teachers. It is an example in terms of keeping up traditional values. Specialising on prevention and rehabilitation, however, the school has always had the ability to account for changes, without compromising its basic values. Founded as a recognized educational institute of gymnastics it has developed to be a supplementary private school funded mainly by the state.

Today it is a college of gymnastics and since 2001 also a college of cosmetics. This new course, specialising on medical cosmetics, is unique in Germany and caters for the growing demand for special cosmetic treatments in spa facilities, dermatologic clinics and practices, and pharmacies.
As the Anna Herrmann-School has the status of a college (perhaps comparable to a British sixth form college), students now have the additional opportunity of acquiring "Fachhochschulreife", ie the minimum qualification necessary to study at a German universitiy of applied sciences.
